JFK Junior’s Lost Compass on Display
KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A bit of Kennedy family history is on display now at Union Station. As part of its “Real Pirates” exhibit, John F. Kennedy Jr.’s compass is on display.

The navigational device is drawing a lot of attention, as this week marks the 14th anniversary of the plane crash that killed JFK Junior, his wife, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and her older sister Lauren Bessette, on July 16, 1999.
The son of the nation’s 35th president, sometimes called John-John, had lost the compass many years before.
“He dropped it when he was just 22 years old; when he was doing a dive,” said Union Station publicist Nancy Besa.

Kennedy lost the compass while exploring the remains of the pirate ship Whydah, off the coast of Cape Cod, Mass. He identified two of the ship’s cannons.
Artifacts from the pirate ship form the core of the exhibit, which continues through Jan. 5.
JFK Junior was the son of John F. Kennedy, a president who was tragically assassinated in November of 1963.
