A new tribute to President John F. Kennedy will be unveiled Thursday in Fort Worth. The memorial reconnects the city with JFK’s trip there on November 22, 1963.
Just hours before his untimely death, President Kennedy gave his penultimate speech at 8:45 am to a group assembled in a parking lot near the Texas Hotel in Fort Worth. The Chamber of Commerce was slated to meet at the hotel afterward. The Hotel Texas is now the Fort Worth Hilton, which sits at the corner of Main St. and 9th St., directly across from the city’s new JFK Tribute.
During his speech, President Kennedy made a joke about his wife Jackie‘s grooming before lauding Texas for its role in developing military fighter systems, and in the space race.
There are no faint hearts in Fort Worth, and I appreciate your being here this morning. Mrs. Kennedy is organizing herself. It takes longer, but, of course, she looks better than we do when she does it. But we appreciate your welcome.
